(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes City Council held their monthly meeting for December 2013 on Monday.

The total expenses to fix the city’s lone garbage truck currently stands at $22,216.89. The city says the truck is still having issues, and has been sent back to Sanitation Products. The council said it would hold payment for invoices for the repairs until the next meeting in January to make sure not further repairs are needed. There was some discussion regarding the purchase of new truck and other options. The Garbage Committee is review options and will report at the next meeting.

In other news, the police department has received their education grant to fund training for a school resource officer. The state Department of Transportation has requested the signs along North Dakota Highway 1 be changed, so the City of The Year and Build signs will be changed.

The council also approved the use of fireworks for New Years celebrations within city limits; from 10 p.m. New Year’s Eve to 1 a.m New Year’s Day.
