(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School girls basketball team started 2014 on solid footing. However, the Lady Tornadoes saw their chances at winning their second game in a row fall by the wayside, and commenced District 1 play with a 50-24 loss at Milnor Tuesday night.
The second and fourth quarters were a rough go for the visitors from Oakes, as the Tornadoes managed just three points in the second quarter and six points in the final eight minutes of regulation. Milnor started the second quarter only up by two, but lead off on an 11-0 run and never looked back to earn their first District 1 victory; having not played a game since December 19.
Oakes (1-6 0-1) had nine points from Shelby Roney, while the Lady Bison (3-2 1-0) had a team high 15 points from Brooke Tayer.
The Lady Tornadoes will host the Lisbon Broncos on Friday night. Coverage will start around 7:15 p.m. on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com, with tip set for 7:30 p.m.
