CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Erin, Reanna and Kaelyn Welken of Valley City announced the establishment of the Steve Welken Memorial Scholarship at Valley City State University. The endowment will provide scholarships for full-time students in their junior or senior year, with majors in Business, Education or STEM.

Erin Welken says, “Steve believed that education was the key to better families and better communities.  Through this scholarship we are looking for the next generation of student leaders demonstrating the same characteristics that Steve portrayed in life.  Steve’s drive, determination, and desire to learn helped him be a leader in the community and a successful businessman.  We are honored to use this scholarship as an opportunity to both remember Steve and give assistance to the leaders of tomorrow.”

Gifts from the Welken family, in addition to over 70 of Steve and Erin’s family and friends, brought the scholarship fund total to over $21,000.
