(NewsDakota.com) The Cardinals have a busy schedule this week, playing four games total, three of them are District 7 contests. In a District 7 basketball game last night, the Cards traveled to Fessenden to take on the Hornets of Harvey/Wells County. Carrington lost in a close game 43-41. Carrington drops to fourth in the district at 2-2, HWC improves to 4-1 and remains in second place behind Four Winds/Minnewaukan.
The Cards jumped out to an early 17-11 lead at the end of the first quarter, but good perimeter defense by the Hornets allowed only six Cardinal points in the second quarter and only seven points in the third quarter to pull ahead 37-30 at the end of three quarters. After a timeout by Carrington with 18 seconds left in the fourth quarter and down by two, the Cards would bring it up and get a shot off that was no good, Seth Abaurrea rebounded the missed shot and attempted another shot but could not get it to drop as Harvey/Wells County held on for the victory and improved to 9-6 overall. Carrington drops to 7-6 overall. Carrington has had some close games this year, three of their losses so far have been by four points or less. Senior Forward Jake Edland led the way with 20 points for Carrington, he’s averaging 16 points per game for the season. Brady Bickett drilled two 3-pointers for the Cardinals and ended the game with eight points.
Next up for Carrington will be this Friday night in Lakota for another district game with Lakota/Edmore. Pregame can be heard on AM 1600 KDAK and newsdakota.com about 7pm.
