N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A special session was held by the Jamestown City Council with all members present to discuss the proposed contract between Menards and the City of Jamestown.

Developers Drew Snyder from Woodsonia and Matt Dennis of R.H. Johnson LLC as well as Scott Nuttelman, a representative of Menards, came before the City Council and a number of Jamestown residents to provide information and insight into the projects development as well as costs and numbers.

The contract will bring Menards to the city of Jamestown, west of R.M. Stoudt on land purchased from Liechty and Associates. It will also allow for additional lots to be used by developers and turned into other retail or restaurant businesses. The cost of the sale is estimated to be around $5.7 million. After the logistics of the agreement were discussed, residents were allowed to voice their opinions and concerns.

Among them were many business owners and many taxpayers. Colin Wegenast, owner of Lifestyle appliance in Jamestown was one of them.

Many other family business owners and residents of Jamestown agreed, stating their case and reasons for their position against the agreement.

A first move to postpone the the agreement for 3 months was made by Council Member Dan Buchanan, stating that there wasn’t enough evidence and information readily available to make the decision.

The motion was defeated in a 2-3 vote. A new move was then created by Council Member Ramone Gumke to approve the agreement between the City of Jamestown and Menards for the sale of the lot. Before the vote could be called, Mayor Katie Anderson stated her support.

The vote passed 3-2 in favor of the agreement with Menards with Council Members Buchanan and Kourajian voting in opposition.
