(NewsDakota.com) The Cardinals were supposed to play three games at the Enderlin/Casselton Tourney last Friday and Saturday, but due to poor field conditions in Casselton on Friday, the decision was made to move some games to Carrington. Carrington, on its home field, beat Lewis & Clark/Berthold/North Shore/Parshall 2-0 in the first game. In the second game, Carrington beat Midkota for the first time this year 8-7. On Saturday, field conditions improved in Casselton allowing several games to be played. The Cards were shutout in both games, 3-0 and 7-0 against Northern Cass and Central Cass respectively. All games were only five innings each and did not count in any region standings.
Brady Smith hit his fourth home run of the year in the first game of the day on Friday in Carrington, helping the Cardinals beath Lewis & Clark (Berthold/North Shore/Parshall) 2-0. Smith was 1 for 2 at the plate including the 2-run home run. Patrick Freeman was the winning pitcher with six strikeouts and allowed only two hits.
In the second game on Friday, Easton Paeper and Brett Lyman combined for six of the 10 total hits as the Cards beat the Mustangs of Midkota 8-7. Lyman was also the winning pitcher with three strikeouts.
After Saturday, Carrington is now 11-6 overall.
Carrington’s game today against Lakota was postponed, no makeup date yet. Next up for Carrington is tomorrow against fellow Region 3 team Dakota Prairie in Tolna. Pregame starts at 12:45p, first pitch at 1pm on AM 1600 KDAK and newsdakota.com.
