CITY, N.D (NewsDakota.com) Led Jessica Denholm’s  by a near perfect night in the circle, the Valley City Hi-Liners softball team clinched second place in the Eastern Dakota Conference with a 10-0 win in six innings over the Fargo South.

The Hi-Liners advance to second place in the conference with an 11-5 league record, they head into Thursday’s tournament with a 19-9 overall record. The Bruins loss drops them to 4-12 in the conference with a overall mark of 3-16. The Hi-Liners and Bruins will meet again on Thursday, night in the first round of the EDC Tournament at 5pm.

The Hi-Liners defense was solid throughout night. If the Bruins were able to put the ball in play it was almost certain to be snatched up for an out by the infield, or be caught in the air by the Hi-Liners outfield. When the ball wasn’t hit in play more than likely the Bruins batter became a strike out victim.  Denholms sat down 9 batters on the night. The Hi-Liners senior hurler walked just three batters and allowed only two hits in the game.

As far as offense goes, Valley City was just as crisp in the batter’s box as they were fielding the ball. Seven of 9 batters made their way onto the base paths with hits for Valley City. The Hi-Liners scored runs in every inning but the first, and they ended the game early in the sixth with a RBI single from Paula Andel.

At the Dish Denholm finished the night two for four with a team high 5 RBI’s, Tarryn Justesen was two for three with two RBI’s.
