(NewsDakota.com) Two teams exited the 2014 North Dakota American Legion Class B Southeast Region Baseball tournament on Wednesday, while another two have assured they will play at least on Friday.
In loser-out play Kindred rallied back from a setback in round one to defeat Galchut 5-2. The second loser-out contest saw Kidder County come back from a two run deficit against Lidgerwood to score six consecutive runs to win 6-2.
The winner’s bracket games were thrilling contests in their own right. In game one, LaMoure’s Jared Meikljejohn scored the lone run in the first inning, and that was the only run scored; as Post 19 held off Hankinson-Fairmount 1-0. Meiklejohn was the winning pitcher, allowing just four hits while striking out six. Parker Stemen drove in Meiklejohn to collect the lone run batted in.
The second of the two winner’s bracket games was played in just 70 minutes, and in the end it was the #1 seed in the tournament Enderlin Post 221 shutting down Oakes Post 36 3-0. Oakes had the bases loaded with the tying run at the plate to end the game. Kaleb Sell was the lone runner for Oakes to reach third base. Daniel Lindgren threw a four hitter and picked up six strikeouts. Bryce Meehl went six innings, did not allow a walk, but gave up six hits. Grant Lindemann was two for three with two hits and two runs scored.
Thursday’s play features a triple-header starting at 2:30 with Kidder County and Hankinson-Fairmount, followed by Oakes and Kindred at 5 p.m. The winner’s bracket game between Enderlin and LaMoure is scheduled for 7:30. All three games will be on Q101.1 FM, and game two can be heard on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM.
