This past Saturday, VCSU Viking Club Tennis held their first ever Tennis Play-A-Thon with all club players challenged to play up to 40 games each in one day. Helping the club players oSaturday were a mix of Hi-Liner boys tennis players, community players and VCSU staff. Players from ages 9 to 60 participated! It was a cold day on the courts but all club players managed to get their maximum of 40 games in by 2PM. This fundraiser totaled over $1200 for both the club program and the Valley City Tennis Association’s Tennis in the Schools program. Later that night at Woodland Steakhouse, the Viking Club Tennis team held their 2014/2015 awards night. Capping off a great 2014-15 season which saw the club finish 2nd in the fall USTA Tennis on Campus series, just behind the U of M Gophers and a 4th place finish at the Sectional Championships in Lakeville, MN, in February. Team awards were as follows: Most Dedicated Women – Paige Fettig (Bismarck, ND) Most Dedicated Men – Kurt Brown (Lake City, MN) Most Improved Women – Strella Navalta (Brooklyn Park, MN) Most Improved Men – Kasey Dilbeck (Fargo, ND) Spirit Award – Alex Conlon (Mandan, ND) MVP Women – Paige Fettig (Bismarck, ND) Co-MVP Men – Kurt Brown (Lake City, MN) and Alex Conlon )Mandan, ND) Senior Award is given for 4 or more complete years in the program: Kurt Brown (Lake City, MN) Erika Lutjens (Valley City, ND) As the VCSU Viking Club Tennis program concludes its 11th year, they celebrate one of the most successful seasons. We lose two very valuable seniors but have some very talented returning players next year in Alex Conlon, Dustin Miller, Kasey Dilbeck, Paige Fettig and Strella Navalta.
