CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) Ten participants recently completed a seven-week “Stepping On” course which is a falls prevention program for older adults. The class was facilitated by Paula Thomsen, RN, City-County Health District, and Teresa Garrahy, Young People’s Healthy Heart Program at CHI Mercy Health through the Barnes ON THE MOVE Partnership.
During the seven weeks, participants were instructed on strength and balance exercises, mobility issues, personal safety, eye health, medication management, and calcium and vitamin D supplements along with many other topics, all to reduce an individual’s risk of falling.
Guest speakers throughout the program included Julie Halgrimson, CHI Mercy Physical Therapy; Dr. Joy Quitberg, Sanford Eye Clinic; Officer Andrew Eisenschenk, Valley City Police Department; and Doreen Sayler, Central Avenue Pharmacy.
The next “Stepping On” class will be offered in August and September. Please call 845-6456 for more information or to register. Class size is limited.
