Lucille Garrahy, age 90 of Valley City, ND and formerly of Oriska, ND died Aug. 28, 2015 at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1PM Saturday, September 5, 2015 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Valley City with Msgr. Dennis Skonseng celebrant.  Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Friday at the Lerud-Schuldt Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.  Interment will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Oriska, ND.

Helen Lucille Garrahy was born August 21, 1925, the fourth child of Daniel and Helen Asbe.  She was known throughout her life as Lucille. She attended Carpio schools and graduated in 1943. She went to work for the Post Office right after high school and with her first paycheck bought a piano. She and her sister Lillian sang in a trio and sextet while growing up and her love of music never changed.

On October 4, 1952 she married Patrick M. Garrahy in Donnybrooke, ND. Patrick worked as lineman for the Rural Electric Association and the first years of their marriage they moved about frequently living in several cities including Velva, Minot, the Fargo-Moorhead area and Grand Forks.

Pat and Lucille moved to a farm south of Pillsbury to start their farming lives in 1959. Here, Lucille learned to drive and get her first license and soon was driving grain trucks. In 1966 they purchased a farm and settled for good in the Oriska area. They were blessed with 3 children. They were active members of St. Bernard’s church in Oriska and Lucille was a member of the Ladies Aid at the parish. When Lucille moved to Valley City she became a member of St. Catherine’s church.

Lucille moved to Valley City after Patrick’s death in 1980. She owned a condominium for many years until she moved to The Legacy Place assisted living and moved to the Sheyenne Care Center in 2011.

Lucille enjoyed playing the piano, gardening, playing cards and board games.

Lucille is survived by three children, Mike, Fargo, ND, Jerome (Teresa), Oriska, ND and Joan Rindahl, Stanwood, WA; 8 grandchildren, Josh (Anne) Garrahy, Tricia (Justin) Bearinger, Christopher Garrahy, Jonathan (Shauna) Garrahy, Amber Watson, Bryce (Lindsey) Rindahl, Kyle Rindahl and Steffan (Brandi) Rindahl; and 11 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Olivia, Jocelyn, Jillian, Sawyer, Gabe, Brooklyn, Bailey, Parker, Soren and McKenna.

Lucille is preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Garrahy, parents, brother, Orville (Bud), sister, Lillian and sister, Arvilla.
