Joseph Krawczyk’s story is a poignant reminder of the many soldiers who were lost during World War II. His service and sacrifice are remembered, even though his remains were never recovered. The Fried native held the rank of Technician 4th Grade in the U.S. Army. He served with the 164th Infantry Regiment, Americal Division, in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. His date of loss is recorded as January 13, 1943. The circumstances of his disappearance involve a C-47 aircraft that vanished while transporting him and other personnel from Guadalcanal to Efate Island, New Hebrides (now Vanuatu), for casualty evacuation. Family is honoring him today, 4 p.m. Jamestown All Vets Club with an honor guard flag ceremony and Taps.
