Fischer, age 77 of Valley City died Thursday Sept. 20, 2012 at the Palliative Care Center of Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Wednesday Sept. 26th at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Valley City with Msgr Dennis Skonseng celebrant.  Visitation will be from 4PM until 7PM Tuesday with a Prayer Service recited at 7 PM; all at St. Catherine’s Church.  Interment will be in St. Catherine’s Cemetery.  An online guest register is available at www.lerudschuldt.com 

Mary E. Fischer was born on February 14, 1935 at Buffalo, ND, the daughter of Patrick and Sarah Killoran.  She started school at the Buffalo country school by her family farm, then attended St. Catherine’s boarding school in Valley City until her graduation in 1952 as Valedictorian .  On Sept. 27, 1952 she married Clair A. Fischer and settled in Valley City to raise their large family. 

After  Clair passed away in 1967, Mary went back to college at Valley City State College and received her degree in Education with a double Major in Biology and English and a minor in Library Science.  She was the first older-than-average student and graduated as Summa Cum Laude.   She was also nominated and became one of the first members of the North Dakota Beta Chapter of Alpha Chi (Honor Society).  She was employed at Valley City Barnes County Public Library from 1979  until present and worked as the Director for several years.

Mary was very active in her community and church throughout the years.  She was a 4H leader for over 25 years.  She was a member of the parish counsel,  head of the CCD program, and lecture at St. Catherine’s church as well as a member of the Catholic Daughters.  She loved gardening, reading, and raising her kids.

On April 17, 1995, she married Donald Anderson and they resided in rural Valley City until his passing in 2002. 

Mary is survived by her children; Judith (Bill) Hanson, Litchville, ND, Barbara (Reed) Boschee, Bismarck, ND, Veronica (Randy Trader) Fischer, Fargo, ND, Theresa (Curtis) Borchert, Ada, MN, Ruth (Larry) Haugrud, Perham, MN, Raymond (Kari) Fischer, Fargo, ND, Linda (Adrian) Dvorak, Bismarck ND, and Rudy Fischer, Finley, ND, several grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
