(NewsDakota.com)- Last week, the girls played one of the top teams in the state, tonight it was the boys turn. The No. 4 St. Mary’s Saints didn’t exactly start quick, but they got it going late in the first half to beat the Jays, 81-36.

The girls on the other hand got a dominating second-half performance from senior Kyra Dewald to pick up their sixth win, 55-47. Seventeen of her 25 points came in the second stanza as the Jays built a 12-point lead.

Dewald was the only player in the game with double-figures. Two Saints had nine, but the defensive effort of the Jays stymied the balanced Saints. Jamestown improves to 6-2 on the season and 4-1 in the WDA.

St. Mary’s Ben Weisbeck came in averaging 17.7 points per game and only played two of the first 14 minutes after picking up two quick fouls. When he reentered the game he put the game away in a hurry, 10 straight points on 5-of-5 shooting in the final minutes extended the Saints lead to 22.

The Saints defense was swarming the entire night, forcing 21 turnovers and held the Jays to just 34 field goal attempts. Jamestown falls to 2-6 on the season.

The Jays are back in action on Saturday when the host Minot. Tip-off of the girls game is at 5:45pm.
