N.D. (AP) – As of Tuesday, 125 people have died on
North Dakota roads this year, up from 105 deaths in all of 2010.
Highway Patrol Lt. Jody Skogen tells The Bismarck Tribune that the
113 crashes have also surpassed the 2010 total of 92.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Spirit Lake Sioux tribal members who want
to keep the University of North Dakota’s Fighting Sioux nickname
want to take the issue to the voters. They’ll need about 27,000
signatures on a petition to get the issue on the November 2012
ballot. UND wants to retire the nickname, and the Legislature has
repealed a law that said UND had to keep the name.
DUNSEITH, N.D. (AP) – One driver is dead and another was injured
after two cars collided head-on on a Rolette County road south of
the International Peace Garden. Authorities haven’t released the
names of the people involved but say the driver who was killed was
20 years old. The injured driver is 18.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Homeowners who suffered flood damage could
be able to start applying for disaster loans by Dec. 1. The
state-owned Bank of North Dakota is administering a $50 million
program that offers $30,000, 20-year loans at 1 percent interest to
flood-ravaged homeowners. No collateral is required.
