CITY (NewsDakota.com)–The second round of the Barnes County Boys Basketball Tournament concluded Thursday at the W. E. Osmon Fieldhouse in Valley City.

The Spartans held on for their first win of the year, building an 11-point lead, then having to use the free throw line late to seal the game.
Alex Aberle scored eight of his 10 points in the fourth quarter to help build the lead, including two big three-point shots.
LMM answered with the fifth three of the game by Garrett Van Asperen, who scored a game-high 17, and Dylan Thompson, who scored eight of his 12 in the fourth, cutting the lead to just three.
Austin Archer would answer for the Spartans, hitting a crucial field goal and four straight free throws to ice the game, sending the Spartans to the consolation title game.
Enderlin 47, Barnes County North 38
The Eagles were fueled by a torrid stretch by Thomas Lindgren in the fourth quarter, who scored 10 of his game-high 20, turning a tight three-quarter game into a one-time 14 point lead.
Barnes County North’s Cody Christ scored five in the fourth quarter, pulling the Bison back within nine twice. But the Bison could not recapture their early post presence. Trevor Anderson scored 11 in the first half, keeping the Bison within a single point. He would score just two more the rest of the way.
Maple Valley 58, Northern Cass 48
A strong first half powered the Raiders to a big lead, and they would cruise to the semifinals.
The Raiders got 12 first half points from Ty Smith, who followed a 22-point performance in the opening round with 18. Wade Steidl tallied nine in the first two quarters. The lead was 32-15 at the break.
Jordan Haseleu had a strong second half to keep the Raiders with the advantage, as the Jaguars cut the lead to 13 late in the third. Haseleu scored 11 of his 18 after the break.
Taylor Kyllo led the Jaguars with 14. Colton Hill added 11.
Valley City 58, Griggs County Central 48.
The Hi-Liners built a big lead, the held off an intense charge by the Cougars to survive.
Valley City started the second half with a 10-0 run, running a four-point halftime lead to 31-17. They would lead by as many as 16 in the early fourth quarter.
But Billy Engel lit up the second half, scoring 22 of his game-high 28 points after halftime, with seven field goals and 5-6 from the line. The Cougars would cut the lead to as few as five, but could get no closer.
The Hi-Liner posts again rallied for the difference. Chase Carpenter scored 11 of his 13 after halftime, and Josh Magnuson scored eight of his 12 after the break.
Saturday will bring a noon start to the tournament, as Barnes County North plays Litchville-Marion-Montpelier for seventh place. Enderlin will then face Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page for fifth.
The third place game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start with Northern Cass facing Griggs County Central, and Maple Valley meets Valley City for the title.
