Hetherington, 80, of Jamestown, ND, died Sunday, January 1, 2012 at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.

Char was born in Valley City, ND, on May 17, 1931.  As a newborn she was adopted by Harry and Rose (Fetcher) Poulson.  Char graduated from Jamestown High School in 1949, and then went on to Jamestown College.  She graduated in 1954 with a degree in social work.  After college, Char moved to Dickinson, ND to work in her chosen field until she married Jess Hetherington in 1955.  Char and Jess lived briefly in Cheyenne, WY, and then Billings, MT where they started their family.  Terry was born in 1957 and Scott in 1959.  After their return to Jamestown, Stacy joined the family in 1961.  After raising their children, Char worked with the JRSCC in various capacities from 1977 to 1989 when health issues forced her into retirement.

Char was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Jamestown for more than 70 years.  She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star for over 50 years.  Char’s big heart was evident in her contribution to her community through her years of work with the Hospital Auxiliary, the American Red Cross, the Anne Carlsen School, and the American Cancer Society.

Char enjoyed fishing and telling tales of the whoppers she “caught”.  Char always enjoyed a cup of coffee and chatting with good friends.  But her greatest pleasure was spending time with grandchildren Phillip, Sam, Riley, and new granddaughter, Quinn.  Family and friends will always remember Char for her wonderful sense of humor and her gracious and giving nature.

Char will be missed by her children and their families; brother, George Poulson and family; and countless friends.

Welcoming Char into heaven will be her parents, Jess, and many friends.

Char donated her body to the University of North Dakota Deeded Body Program.

A memorial service will be held at a future date.
