CITY (NewsDakota.com)–Valley City got a big night from Chase Carpenter and their trapping pressure in a 57-45 win over Lisbon Tuesday night in Lisbon, ending a nine-game losing streak.

Carpenter scored 26, with 24 coming after three quarters, and Tayler Lentz hit double figures in the first half, while the defense played well through three quarters in a 57-45 win over the Broncos.

Carpenter and Lentz both hit double figures to run the Hi-Liner lead to large levels early. Carpenter knocked down three treys, and Lentz had a great half off the bench, hitting four field goals and a pair of free throws. Carpenter finished with 15 first-half points, with Lentz adding 10, and Valley City led 37-21 at the break.

Valley City then pitched a shut-out through 6:35 of the third quarter, while Carpenter scored his 20th point just a minute into the second half. The Hi-Liners ran their lead to 25 at the end of three. A late run by the Broncos would cut the lead to 12 late, but Valley City hung on for the win.

The Hi-Liners improve to 3-9 overall, and have a long layoff. They face Grand Forks Central next Friday night at home, in a game worth two points in the Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) standings. The Broncos fall to 4-12, and they play at Fairmount-Campbell-Tintah Friday night.
