CITY (NewsDakota.com) City-County Health District in Valley City awarded its 2011 Public Health Service Award to Mary Simonson, Open Door Center Executive Director, during their monthly Health Board meeting this week.
    
City-County Health director, Theresa Will said, “Simonson has a long-standing history of promoting the wellbeing of people within this community, dating back to 1982 when she joined the staff of the Open Door Center in Valley City.
    
A champion of the developmentally disabled in this area, Simonson saw the expansion of the local number of group homes to five.

Under her guidance, mental health support was added for ODC clients, along with a cluster of local apartments for those individuals capable of living independently with some assistance.
