CITY (NewsDakota.com) The push to save the city park band shell is still alive in Valley City. The money to repair the City Park Band shell damaged by flooding just isn’t there to start the project this summer.

Park board director Tyler Jacobson says FEMA dollars to cover the $225,000 repair project are less than half the amount needed and others scenarios will have to be explored.

Citizens concerned about saving the band shell shared several options during the park board meeting.

Jenni Lou Russi emphasied the need to save not only the structure but the acoustic designs already in the existing building.

Some suggested holding several fundraising events or forming a steering committee to work on securing state and federal dollars possibly available to repair the band shell built in 1931 and damaged by the floods of 2009 & 2011.

KLJ engineer Shawn Mayfield told the board on Wednesday that the cost to repair the foundation alone would be $165,000.
