CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Improvements are underway at the Barnes County Municipal airport. Shawn Anderson is the chairman of the airport authority, he says construction of a 12 bay hangar should be completed this summer.
Anderson says bids for a taxiway and apron will be let this year. He says the plan is to have everything completed in time for the Air Show by September 6.
Anderson says the hanger construction project is estimated at nearly $670,000 and the taxiway project is estimated at almost $600,000 for the $1.2 million dollar project.
The Barnes County commission approved a loan capped at $300,000 to be used for the project. But Commissioners Jon Froelich and Phil Leitner voted against the motion. Froelich says the commission shouldn’t be used as a bank.
Anderson says the money will be paid back through incoming grants that the airport has secured for this project.
