(NewsDakota.com) The road to the Class B State Girls Basketball Tournament is never easy; regardless of how things have gone in games past. The squad from Maple Valley learned that lesson well on Monday night, as they held on for a 41-34 victory over the North Sargent Bobcats in the opening round of the Region I tournament.

The Lady Bobcats (13-10) put forward an impressive effort against the favored Lady Raiders (21-2) in the first three quarters. North Sargent lead after the first, and second quarters; thanks in large part to Maple Valley’s 18.5 percent shooting from the floor in the opening half. Both teams had their own share of adversity throughout the contest. The Lady Raiders managed just over 22 percent shooting for the game, while North Sargent had three of their starters foul out in the second half.

Maple Valley had a team high 21 points from Rylee Nudell, while North Sargent was lead in scoring by Chelsey Anderson with 25 points.

The Lady Raiders advance to the semifinals, and will face Fairmount-Campbell-Tintah on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. The Lady Rebels defeated Kindred 47-25. The other semifinal, which will start around 7:45 will feature Central Cass and Fargo Oak Grove. Central Cass took down Hankinson 68-39 and Oak Grove was a winner over Sargent Central 68-58.

Coverage of F-C-T/Maple Valley will start at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday on Q101.1 FM and NewsDakota.com
