N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City Hi-Liners volleyball team came up just shy of an upset Tuesday night falling to the Eastern Dakota Conference #2 seed, Fargo Davies,  on the road in a 3-2 (25-18, 22-25, 26-24, 27-25, 15-7) final.

After dropping the opening game, the Hi-Liners fired back in game two taking a 10 point led over Davies midway through the match.  While the Eagles would fight back to cut the Hi-Liners advantage to just two points, Claire Olson would finish off the Eagles with a hard shot down the far sideline for the game’s final kill and a Hi-Liner win.

In the third game, the Eagles would overcome an early deficit to recapture the win with help from Carla Binde who had 3 kills and one assist in the set.

In a close game four, Valley City would edge out Fargo Davies with the help of freshmen setter Reagan Ingstad who tallied an Ace and Kill to go along with a handful of assists forcing a decisive fifth game.

The final set was all Eagles. The home team came out strong taking an early 9-1 lead on the service of Casey Coste. Hi-Liners battled back outscoring the Eagles down the stretch 7 to 6 but Davies won the race to 15 to capture the game and the match.

Olson led the Hi-Liners on the day with 22 kills and four blocked shots. Brenna Dieterle tallied four blocks, and Ingstad led the Hi-Liners with 23 assists.

The Eagles were led by Arlana Prost’s 17 kills. Jaiden Langlie led all players in assists with 57 in the long match.

The loss drops the Hi-Liners to 5-10 in EDC play. Valley has an overall record of 18-12. Fargo Davies advances to 14-1 in the conference with a 20-6 regular season record.

Valley City returns home on Tuesday, October 21st when they host Fargo North. That game comes your way won 1490 KOVC starting at 7:00pm.
