Barton, 92, passed away Sunday afternoon, January 4, 2015 in the presence of her family at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown, ND.

Delores was born and raised in the Monango, North Dakota area. Born Delores Margaret Nordahl on March 19, 1922 to Stanley & Lucy (Kreis) Nordahl, she was the oldest of 5 children. Farming was a part of her life then and also when she and her husband Ken Barton retired.

Delores was a school teacher and taught all 8 grades in her younger years. In fact, that is how she met Ken Barton as she was teaching his younger siblings.

Delores married Ken Barton on December 24, 1950 in the schoolhouse where they met. They spent 59 memorable and adventurous years together beginning on a farm near Monango. They moved to Glendale, CA in 1955 where she was manager of The Thrift Store until their move to California City in the Mojave Desert in 1960. In California City, they owned a green nursery, a hardware store and a variety store as well as “The Open Pit” restaurant, a family steakhouse. They were active members in the Sons of Norway. She kept in touch through the years with their many friends from out there.

The decision to move back to Monango was due to the fact that they loved farming! Delores ran all of the farm equipment through the years. She loved their cattle and calves and enjoyed the livestock auction sales. In fact she attended the December 9th Jamestown Livestock Auction where she watched the Ova’s cattle sell, and had a shot of blackberry brandy with Roger Nenow.

Gardening was a passion of Delores’ and she had many large gardens until a couple of years ago. All of her grandkids took their turns helping out with calves, picking rocks or pulling weeds in the garden.

For the past 13 winters, Delores has gone to her home in Yuma, Arizona. She and her husband Ken enjoyed all of the friends they made in Yuma. Ken passed away in January 2009, but Delores continued to winter there until this year.

Anyone who knows Delores learned to play Dominoes. She and her family and friends enjoyed this past time the last few years. Cards were in the mix as well. For years she and Ken bowled on a league in Ellendale, ND. A few bus trips to Casinos and to Bingo the last few years have also been entertainment for Delores.

Delores was always a hardworking and happy lady who her family and friends enjoyed being around!

Delores is survived by 3 daughters: Janice Kern, Laguna Woods, California; Nancy Allen, Jamestown, ND and Connie (Denny) Ova Cleveland, ND; 5 grandchildren: Kim (Rich) Moreno, Cary (Kristin) Kern, Regan (Ann) Allen, Jacki (Jeff) Cox, and Kody Ova; 2 great grandchildren: David and Patrick Moreno; 2 sisters: Eileen Palmore, Spring, TX and Dorene (Robert) Brandenburger, Merricourt, ND; and 2 sisters-in-law: Karen (LeRoy) Nordahl, Silver Springs, MD and Billie (John) Nordahl, Henderson, NV.
