Don was born in Valley City, ND on Oct. 11, 1946 to Donald and Ardyce Weiss.  He graduated Valley City High School in 1964 and later attended and graduated from Valley City State College in 1968.

Don held various jobs throughout his life, with most of them focused on either technical creation or the trucking industry.  His initial passion was a well boring business, where he drilled many fresh water wells for families in the surrounding community.  He also was proud to have drilled the footings for the North Dakota State Museum in Bismarck, ND.

His love for the open road and specifically the Southern highways was pervasive.  While he had many experiences driving semi-truck across country, his proudest jobs were driving bus for the popular 90’s country music band, “Confederate Railroad”, and later owning and operating his own trucking business based in Adairsville, GA.

Don was a brilliantly creative man who had a passion for photography.  He was highly intelligent and had an artist’s eye for making beautiful images.  He called himself a hobbyist photographer, and built a substantial body of work over several decades.  He also had a deep love for trains and the railroad.  He spent years photographing trains and shared that passion with his children and grandchildren.

He was also a very generous man and loved creating furniture and technical pieces and gifting them to friends and family.  His happiest builds were for his grandchildren.  He has built fully operable snow plows, trains, sail boats, and most recently a drag-line crane.  He was also in the midst of building a back adjusting machine, and a 5’ wood glider plane that was to be powered by an electric drill motor.

Don is survived by his three children: Wendy Weiss Voeller, and Tom and Christopher Weiss; his 6 grandchildren: Koby Voeller, and Ashley, Shane, Calvin, Olivia, and Penelope Weiss; and one great grandchild: Carter Voeller.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
