N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A California man was sentenced to four years in prison for drug possession. 48 year-old Samuel Henry Hanna has been given four years after more than 16 pounds of marijuana was found in his vehicle earlier this year.

Stutsman County Deputy Matt Thom had conducted a traffic stop of Hanna on March 28th. A search by a K-9 unit discovered that Hanna had roughly 16 and a half pounds of marijuana in his possession. Hanna claimed the marijuana was for medicinal purposes.

Hanna pleaded guilty in Southeast District Court in Jamestown on Wednesday to a felony drug charge, a Class A felony.

Three charges of possession of controlled substance and two possessions of drug paraphernalia were dropped by Stutsman County State’s Attorney Fritz Fremegen in exchange for a guilty plea.
