OAKES (NewsDakota.com) The number one and two seeds during the regular season will meet in the Class B District 5 Volleyball Championship Monday night after winning their semifinal contests Friday evening, while four other teams will be competing for two Region III tournament spots.

#6 Ellendale def. #7 Midkota 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-21)

The Cardinals advanced to a regional qualifier on Monday night with a sweep of the Mustangs.

Ellendale (12-14-1) had a total of 28 kills and 18 aces. Josie Henningson picked up six aces, while Jayln Fischer added another five. Henningson also lead Ellendale in kills with 10.

The Mustangs, who saw their season end at 9-20-1, had five aces and 17 kills. Mariah Topp lead in both categories with 3 aces and seven aces.

Semifinal: #1 LaMoure-Litchville-Marion def. #4 Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-15, 25-14)

For the first time in the tournament, there was a match that went longer than three sets, and it was in large part due to the relentless, passionate play of the Rebels (19-12). Katie Entzi carried her team with 25 kills.

LLM (37-1) had two players in double figures in the kills category: Anna Holen with 24 and Ellie Holen with 13. Jackie Meiklejohn picked up five aces to send the Loboes back to the Championship round.

Semifinal: #2 Carrington def. #3 Oakes 3-2 (25-21, 26-28, 23-25, 25-21, 15-12)

The first time they met, it went five sets, and in the post-season, it went five sets again. The Tornadoes looked like they would have it won in four, but the Cardinals fought back to win the fourth set, and held on in the fifth to punch their ticket to the District 5 title bout.

Carrington (26-8) had 10 aces, four of them from Emerson Hoornet. The Cardinals amassed 53 kills, with Bella Hone leading the way with 18.

Oakes (23-9) picked up seven aces, with MaKayla Wetzel and Nichole Schmitz picking up two each. The Tornadoes had 60 kills. Schmitz had a team high 26 kills.

The first of two Region III qualifying matches takes place Monday with Oakes meeting #5 Barnes County North at 4:30 p.m, followed by Ellendale going against EKM at 6 p.m.

The Class B District 5 Volleyball Championship match between LLM and Carrington will take place at 7:30.
