October, the Jamestown City Council expressed their concerns with the failure to have recycling implemented by the original June 1st deadline. On Monday, the council announced that there have been deadlines put in place as well as contract termination if those deadlines are not met.
Mayor Katie Andersen said following a meeting, November 21st became the first deadline that must be met.
The date was chosen as Ralph Friebel estimates to have a response from two banks he is working with to get funding for his operation. Councilman Dan Buchanan said he was concerned with giving Friebel “more time” with all the delays already.
Andersen says if the contract is not able to be fulfilled at any of the other dates specified, the city will have the option of canceling the contract and finding another avenue.
Mayor Andersen gave several other dates that needed to be met by Friebel including December 21st for commitment from the SBA. If this date is not met, the termination clause can be imposed. Mayor Andersen says closing on the building is expected by the beginning of 2018.
Jamestown Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Becky Thatcher-Keller asked the council when they planned to have automated collection for the city start. Mayor Andersen says they anticipate that they may begin using the trucks soon.
Councilwoman Pam Phillips asked Deputy Auditor Jay Sveum about the city layoffs and if they would be affected by the schedule. Sveum stated that they’ve already lost 3 of the planned 6 workers that would be laid off.
The council approved the terms of the agreement.
