JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A committee put together to discuss the capital construction fund will be meeting Thursday at 11:30 AM and view several requests.

Projects put fort by Fort Seward, 1883 Stutsman County Courthouse, and Jack Brown Stadium will be reviewed. All requests will be heard and a score sheet will tally up whether the project meets satisfactory requirements for the funding. This includes relation to tourism, project accomplishments, fulfilling a new/unique need, timeline, budget, and economic benefit to the community.

Fort Seward is requesting $15,226.05 that will be used to offer guests a “place where people can discover authentic frontier army campaign camping at historic Fort Seward.” Fort Seward is looking to create a reproduction of what it would have been like to camp using authentic and recreated supplies of an Army Campaign.

“Our proposal is to create a replication similar to Airbnb,” Fort Seward member Jennie Marks states. “The project not only gives Fort Seward a chance to bring in a steady income, it will also help Jamestown’s economic impact.”

The 1883 Stutsman County Courthouse Committee is requesting $26,795 for a Courthouse Citizenship Exhibit.

“We are requesting funding to help make the historic Courthouse the first museum in the United States specifically about the exercise of citizenship,” project contact Robert Hanna states in the request.

“Our central message will be that the most important part of democracy is you.”

If funded, each room in the courthouse will reveal different aspects of this central theme. Each room will have historic and replica objects, many of them interactive or hands-on, and will connect visitors with these big ideas in tangible, memorable ways.

“There are other historic courthouses, but they tend to focus on the architecture or strictly local history, as our Courthouse does now,” the request states. “But much to our surprise, we couldn’t find a single physical museum devoted to entirely help people discover a broad and personal understanding of civics.”

The Jamestown Parks & Recreation Department Foundation is requesting $50,0000 for new bleachers and press box at Jack Brown Stadium.

“It is a needed upgrade for Jack Brown Stadium,” Doug Hogan states in the request. “The current wooden bleachers and pres box were originally built in the late 1960’s. Over the years, repairs as needed have been made. those repairs have become more frequent, to the point that they now present safety concerns.”

The project would have new bleachers be elevated and ADA accessible. It would also allow the stadium to host not only conference, but state and regional tournaments to bring thousands to the community.

The meeting covering all requests will be held at 11:30 AM inside the historic CSI Franklin Building.
