JAMESTOWN, N.D. (newsdakota.com) – After dropping the opening set to St. Mary’s, Coach Sara Hegerle made a change in personnel that catapulted the Jays to handling the next three sets with ease.

Regular starting libero Rachel Schiele missed the regular season finale against Mandan last Tuesday night dealing with an injury that landed her in the hospital. Schiele was supposed to miss last night’s quarterfinals match according to Hegerle, but after dropping the first set Schiele was hurled into the rotation and it proved dividends for Hegerle and the Jays.

Schiele recorded 10 digs through three sets, but the team started executing at a higher percentage once she stepped on the floor.

St. Mary’s capitalized on some poor passing in the opening set taking it 25-23, but after that it was all Jamestown. Sets two, three and four weren’t all that close as Jamestown won by a combined 28 points over the last three frames.

Senior Ella Roaldson poured in a terrific night tying a personal and team high in kills this season with 19. Back on Oct. 27, Roaldson also tallied 19 kills in a win over Legacy.  Grace Hegerle notched 12 kills and Hunter Petersen had 9.

Katie Trumbauer put in work in the passing department with 39 assists and Katie Falk and Kaylee Panchot combined four seven aces.

Jamestown improved to 15-4 and secured a chance to play on Saturday, but Mandan stands in the way of reaching the Championship match. Thursday night at 7:00 the three seed Blue Jays travel to take on the two seed Mandan Braves in a semifinal match. Thursday’s action can be heard on Jamestown 107.1 FM and newsdakota.com.

Mandan owned the regular season series taking both matches.

The winner of Thursday’s contest will play for a region championship Saturday evening. The loser plays in a state qualifier Saturday afternoon.

St. Mary’s drops to 8-11 but the season continues. The six seed Saints will host seven seed Minot Thursday evening in an elimination match.
