Gary Sorensen, age 78, of Valley City, ND, died Friday, January 29th at Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa, AZ.  A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 20th at Grace Free Lutheran Church in Valley City.  Visitation will be held on Friday, February 19th from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Grace Free Lutheran Church.  A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Friday evening at the church.  Due to COVID-19, ND State Department of Health Regulations will be followed and masks a suggested to be worn.  Inurnment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery near Valley City in the spring.

Gary Allen Sorensen, the son of Anton and Mary (Johnson) Sorensen, was born September 5, 1942 in Valley City, ND.  Gary grew up and attended school in Valley City and Graduated from Valley City High School in 1960.  During High School and after his graduation, he worked for Byron Berge doing construction work.  On September 16, 1961 he married Evelyne “Evie” Carico in Pillsbury, ND.  The couple lived in Valley City and had three children, Douglas, Wendy and Terry.  In 1972, Gary started his own business, Sorensen Construction where he worked until his retirement in 2007.  Gary was a very active member of Grace Free Lutheran Church in Valley City and Calvary Free Lutheran Church in Mesa, AZ.  He enjoyed participating in Saturday Morning  prayer groups at both congregations.  Gary enjoyed working in his workshop, camping, going on ATV rides in the Desert of Arizona with Evie and friends, visiting with residents at the Sheyenne Care Center and spending time with his family.

Gary is survived by his wife Evie, Valley City, ND; his three children, Douglas (Nancy) Sorensen, Wendy Sorensen and Terry Sorensen, all Valley City, ND; four grandchildren, Megan Sorensen, Shantell and Macy Schlaht and Hannah Sorensen; one great-grandson, NJ Navarro; numerous nieces and nephews.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Mary, four brothers, Lyle, Merrit, Mylo and Darwin; two sisters, Vivian Welken and LaVetta Anderson.
