MADISON, S.D. (playnorthstar.com) – Valley City State University senior Macey Kvilvang has been named the North Star Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year, the conference office announced Monday. Kvilvang and Maara Nelson were also named to the NSAA All-Conference teams.

Junior Maara Nelson was named Second Team All-Conference after leading the Vikings in scoring with 12.8 points per game, shooting 45.5 percent from the field and 76.2 percent from the free throw line. She recorded 36 assists, 22 steals, and 11 blocks this season. Nelson was also named an NSAA Champion of Character.

Macey Kvilvang was named Honorable Mention All-Conference in addition to her NSAA Defensive Player of the Year award. Kvilvang recorded 12.5 points per game, 8.5 rebounds per game, and 2.7 blocks per game in only 13 games played. She also set a new school record with seven blocked shots against Mayville State in the first round of the NSAA Tournament on Feb. 23.

Jessi Giles of Dakota State was selected as the North Star Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Year.  Her teammate Elsie Aslesen was chosen as the conference’s Newcomer-of-the-Year.

David Moe of Dakota State was voted as the North Star’s Coach-of-the-Year award for the second straight year.
