JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – For more than 50 years, Fort Seward Wagon Train participants have journeyed into the history of the region.

The authentic experience was first crated in 1969 as a way to preserve, protect, and promote the history of the Fort Seward Military Post, Jamestown, and the rest of North Dakota.

Board president Lacey Kaiser says she has been on the wagon train for the past 19 years.

While the event brings back new and experienced participants every year, Kaiser says this year they’ll have an almost entirely new group joining the 95 mile journey. More than 100 people total are expected to join in the excursion.

Another portion of the trailer will task adventurers with different responsibilities.

Kaiser added they’ve had all different ages join, from 6 months all the way to the age of 86.

The trip this year will begin at the Fort Seward Historic Military Post off of Highway 281 North and head north beginning June 20th and returning Saturday, June 26th.

Maps will be available at the Jamestown Police Department for those who wish to visit the wagon train on its journey. You can also click here for a view of the travel map.

If you’d like to sign up for the journey, visit covered-wagon-train.com or their Facebook page Fort Seward Annual Wagon Train. For questions, contact Registrar Mary Ann Kaiser at 701-424-3744.
