HARVEY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Oakes was unable to win against a tough Harvey defense that allowed the Tornadoes less than 200 yards of total offense.

Harvey got the scoring started with a 12-yard receiving touchdown by senior receiver Alex Erickson with 6:53 left in the second quarter. That wouldn’t be their only score in the first half, however, as senior receiver Madden Thors0n tore up the Tornadoes’ defensive backs all night long as he ran a great route and caught a 40-yard dime from senior quarterback Isaac Friese with 1:07 left.

Oakes would get the scoring started in the second half after getting good field position to start as their 46-yard drive was capped off by a 6-yard touchdown run by sophomore backup quarterback Trey Skoglund. Starting junior quarterback Xavier Vossler and starting senior running back David Schmitz kept the Tornadoes in the game as they started to gain momentum in the second half. Harvey would answer, however, with a quarterback touchdown run of their own as Friese took it in from eight yards out to make it 20-6.

The Tornadoes were gifted a turnover as the Hornets coughed up the ball at their own 25-yard line. However, Oakes would turn it over on downs. Harvey then turned around and scored the final touchdown of the day with Thorson receiving a 23-yard strike with 9:15 left in the fourth quarter.

Oakes drops to 0-2 on the season and will start district play next week with a home game against Oak Grove. Kickoff will be at 7:00 p.m. with pregame starting at 6:30 p.m. on 1220 AM 95.9 FM KDDR.
