FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The long season continues for both the girls and boys Hi-Liner basketball teams as both teams lost on Tuesday night. The boys team hosted Fargo North, a team they played a very physical and solid game against back in December, but this time losing at home 66-34. The girls team traveled to the Spartandome to take on the Fargo North Spartans. The girls team made it competitive at the end but ultimately lost 50-41.

Girls: Fargo North 50 Valley City 41

The hi-Liners girls team were looking to get their second win of the season, as their opponent the Fargo North Spartans only had two victories to date. Hi-Liners didn’t help themselves in the first half as they had three turnovers on their first four offensive possessions. It also didn’t help that Spartans player Arden Faulkner hit four 3-pointers on four attempts in the first half to put her team ahead at halftime 29-15. In the second half Valley City started to get themselves back into the game as Dylann Diegel would make a 3-pointer and go 2/2 at the free throw line and finish with a team high 10 points. In the end, the Spartans did an excellent job of answering any Valley City run with a huge bucket of their own. As the Hi-Liners were on a bit of run late in the fourth quarter, Reagan Carlson hit a massive 3-pointer to give her team a solid lead and end any hope for the Hi-Liners on this night.

Boys: Fargo North 66 Valley City 34

The Hi-Liners boys basketball team was looking to pick up that first win of the season, but that will have to wait. Valley City hosted Fargo North in a rematch of a game from last month where the Hi-Liners played a physical game at the Spartandome and came ever so close to upsetting the Spartans. On this night it would be a different story as the team struggled on offense and only shot 20% from the floor. In a text exchange with Hi-Liners head coach Alex Quist, he relayed that, “Our bigs did a good job creating opportunities inside and our defense held up well in the half court.”

Next up, first for the girls team, they are on the road again Thursday night when they travel to take on Devils Lake. The boys team will be on the road Friday night when they travel to take on Fargo Davies. The boys game can be heard on KOVC.
