
MINOT – Two close games led to a split Friday for Jamestown Jimmies Softball.
Minot State got by Jamestown in game one at the Air-Supported Dome in Herb Parker Stadium 2-1 before the Jimmies took the second game 4-1.
Game 1: Minot St. 2, Jamestown 1
Katie Newberry (9-4) defeated Jamestown for the second time this season, pitching a four-hitter and striking out seven for Minot State (27-17, 12-7 NSIC), who won for the seventh straight game.
Sara Van Wickler drove in the first run for MSU in the first inning, singling in Taylor Smith, who had doubled. A passed ball scored the second run for the Beavers in the bottom of the fourth.
Sonya Rodgers and Trinity Gregg hit back-to-back doubles in the fifth for the run for Jamestown (26-16, 7-12). In the seventh, Jamestown loaded the bases with one out, but Gregg struck out and Kasydi Bennett grounded out to end the game.
Hope Ransome (8-7) struck out seven in a complete game six-hitter.
Game 2: Jamestown 4, Minot St. 1
Aubrey Quern (11-4) won her fourth straight decision, combining with Abby Blair on a five-hitter for Jamestown (27-16, 8-12 NSIC) and Sydney Grendler drove in three runs.
Madelyn Webb hit a ground out in the third for a 1-0 UJ lead. One inning later, Grendler doubled, scoring Natalie Draper from first base. Grendler doubled in the other two Jimmie runs in the sixth.
Quern struck out six and walked four while giving up a run and four hits. Blair worked the final two and two-thirds innings scoreless, yielding just one hit.
The Jimmies will host UMary Sunday in a noon doubleheader inside the Nelson Family Bubble.
