
JAMESTOWN – Finally playing outdoors at home, Jamestown Jimmies Softball ran into tough competition for any setting.
Augustana blanked the Jimmies twice on Saturday 2-0 and 8-0 in a doubleheader sweep at Trapper Lawrence Field.
Game 1: Augustana 2, Jamestown 0
Freshman Teya Speltz (9-5) threw her first collegiate shutout and third complete game for Augustana (25-25, 17-10 NSIC), pitching a two-hitter.
Desi Cuevas had three hits for the Vikings, including a go-ahead RBI single in the third inning.
An error by the Jimmies (30-20, 11-16) brought in the other Augie run in the fourth.
Jamestown’s only hits were a fourth inning single by Maddie Spaeth and a Jorja Hainsworth single in the seventh.
Hope Ransome (9-10) lost her third straight decision, striking out three and walking one in a complete game.
Game 2: Augustana 8, Jamestown 0 (6)
Bri Lee had a two-run double in a decisive four-run third inning for Augustana (26-25, 18-10). Earlier in the inning, Kierra Lubovich stole home and Ella Cooper hit an RBI single.
Helene Krage (11-9) combined with Jaelyn Garcia on a six-hit shutout. Sydney Grendler had two of the six hits for the Jimmies (30-21, 11-17).
UJ starter Aubrey Quern (13-6) allowed six runs, four hits and five walks in three innings.
Jamestown will conclude its first Division II softball season with a doubleheader against Wayne State at Trapper Lawrence Field Sunday at noon.
