BILLINGS, MT – At least in their play, it was a bad weekend for Jamestown Jimmies Women’s Basketball.
Friday, the Jimmies shot 35 percent and committed 24 turnovers in a 72-56 loss to Montana State-Billings. Saturday, they shot even worse and made more turnovers in a 55-45 loss to Simon Fraser University at Alterowitz Arena.
Jamestown (2-2) made only 29 percent from the floor on Saturday and turned the ball over 28 times.
Bree Neufeld was efficient for the Red Leafs (3-4) with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Neufeld made 4-of-5 three pointers and also had seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. Rachel Loukes scored 11 and Rilyn Quirke had 10.
Allie Berns scored 15 for the Jimmies, their only double-figure scorer, with three rebounds, a block and two steals. Haidyn Crockett scored eight points. Jessika Lofstrom equaled a career high with 10 rebounds.
Emily Kurkowski hit a three-pointer 2:36 into the game to give Jamestown its only lead of the game at 6-5. It was one of just five first half field goals for the Jimmies. They trailed 25-15 to SFU at halftime and shot just 18 percent in the first 20 minutes.
Samantha Paulsen brought the Jimmies within five points at 37-32 for Simon Fraser with a three-pointer with 2:42 remaining in the third quarter, but the Red Leafs followed with a Neufeld three-pointer and a Sahnya Gill layup for a 42-32 lead.
UJ had one more chance in the fourth quarter. A Lofstrom layup and Kurkowski jumper cut the Simon Fraser lead to 44-42 with 7:23 left, but Jamestown hit only one more basket in the remainder of the game.
The Jimmies will play their first-ever NSIC game on Tuesday against Northern State in Aberdeen, South Dakota, as part of a doubleheader, which will conclude with the Jimmie and Wolves men. Coverage will begin at 5:00 PM on Tuesday on The Voice of the Jimmies, Jamestown 107.1.
