VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) -The Valley City Public School Board approved bids for Phase One of the School Facility Project 2028 during their meeting in April.
On Wednesday, May 13th the school district held a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the future home of the new 3-12 school which will be connected to Jefferson elementary school by the Fall of 2028.
The project received more than 200 bids for Phase One, far exceeding expectations from the project designer, ICON Architectural Group and construction managers, Construction Engineers. Mike Dunn is the spokesman for Construction Engineers.
Superintendent Josh Johnson said Phase One includes construction of the new grade 3–12 school and school district offices to be connected to Jefferson Elementary School. He also talked about the new artificial turf project that was made possible through Essentia Health.
School board president Sherri Horsager thanked the building project committee members, school board members, and the entire community for their support.
Johnson said Phase Two includes the demolition of the current junior and senior high school building and the development of a new parking lot designed to better support events and activities at the Hi-Liner Activity Center.
The project follows a community-approved referendum held June 10, 2025, when 62.73% of voters supported a $46 million plan to build a new grade 3–12 school. The total bid for the entire project was $45.7 million, some 3,000 under the referendum, capped by local voters.
