WILLISTON – Jamestown Blue Jays Softball, just after starting its postseason, now must play to make sure it doesn’t end.
Bismarck shut out the Blue Jays Thursday 8-0 in a quarterfinal game of the Class A West Region Tournament at Williston State College’s Leininger Field.
Mya Jones (10-3) pitched a four-hitter, striking out four for the Demons (24-4). Her walk started a first inning rally that concluded on an RBI double by Cameron Braun, the first of her four hits.
Bismarck added two more in the second inning, the first of which came on a fly ball to right by Jones. Right fielder Sophia Bond of the Blue Jays caught up to the ball near the foul line, but it popped out of her glove, and the speedy Jones circled the bases on a four-base error for a 2-0 Demons lead. After Braun doubled again, Kate Nowatzki singled her in.
In a five-run sixth inning, Laila Nehls had an RBI double, Jones hit an RBI single and Josie Schell drove in two with a single.
For Jamestown (18-13), Maddie Hoff (11-5) allowed eight runs and 10 hits with four strikeouts. The Blue Jays’ best chance for a rally came in the top of the sixth. Bryn Sorensen and Brooke Jackson led off the inning with singles, but Jones retired the next three hitters. Jackson also doubled.
In an elimination game on Friday, Jamestown will meet Minot North. Coverage will begin at around 1:15 PM on The Voice of the Blue Jays, Jamestown 107.1.
