funeral service for Marlys J. Becker, 79, Valley City, will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 11, 2014 at the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Valley City.  She passed away suddenly at her home in Valley City.

Marlys, daughter of August and Ella (Amundsen) Becker, was born on April 1, 1935 in Stewart Township.  She later moved to Edna Township near Rogers, North Dakota.

She attended several one room country schools during grade school and graduated from Rogers High School in 1952. She then attended Valley City State Teachers College receiving a degree in Music Education in 1956.  After graduation, she taught music in Montana and Idaho.  She completed her Masters degree in Music at the University of Idaho.  Marlys worked as a music teacher for over 35 years at schools in Colorado and Maryland until her retirement.

Following retirement, she enjoyed summers in Valley City and especially traveling to the area of East Africa.

She is survived by brothers, Donald Becker (Elaine) and James Becker (Drin) and 3 nieces and 3 nephews.

Marlys was preceded in death by her parents.
