CITY, N.D. (NewsDaktoa.com) The Volunteer Trophy will make its home in Valley City for one more year as the Hi-Liners topped the Lisbon Broncos 44-6 Friday night at Hannah Field.

The Hi-liners advance to 5-2 on the season and jump above .500 for the first time this year with a 3-2 conference record. Lisbon’s woes continue as they remain winless at 0-7 overall with a 0-5 East Region mark.

The 2014 Sandbag Bowl was dominated by the Hi-Liners in every facet of the game.  The defense allowed just one reception for positive yards and held the Broncos running game in check all night. On the offensive side of the ball, John Halgrimson appeared to be as healthy as ever rushing for three touchdowns in the game.

Nate Rodriguez tallied two of the Hi-Liners six touchdowns in the opening quarter of play. He started the scoring with a one yard touchdown run that capped off a 69 yard drive on the Hi-Liners second possession of the game. His second came on a 29 yard run with just over 1:30 left to play in the first.

The Broncos didn’t score their touchdown until the fourth quarter when Colton Fleck took the ball in from 34 yards out. The Hi-liners would score shortly after that on a six yard Mat Brandvold run.

The Hi-Liners return to action next Saturday when they Travel to Fargo Shanley for a 6:00pm meeting with the Deacons. The Broncos are on the road at Central Cass.
