MINOT, N.D. (AP) – BNSF Railway has opened a $35 million railcar
service facility in Minot.
The facility was built in part to accommodate the needs of
increased rail traffic from crude oil loading sites in western
North Dakota’s booming oil patch. Governor Jack Dalrymple
(DAHL’-rimp-ul) says dependable rail service also is critical to
the state’s farmers.
BNSF Executive Vice President Roger Nober says the railroad has
hired 150 people in Minot in the past two years. About 330 BNSF
employees now work in Minot and spokeswoman Amy McBeth says more
hires are expected this year.
The facility includes two inspection tracks that BNSF says will
enable rail workers to inspect more trains.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Members of the Native Mob gang have shot
rivals in Minneapolis, sold drugs in Duluth, and thrown boiling
water in a person’s face in Crow Wing County.
Authorities say this week’s federal indictment of 24 suspected
Native Mob members could bring a reprieve from some of that
violence where the gang is active. It’s seen as one of the most
violent gangs in the Upper Midwest.
Minneapolis police Inspector Mike Martin says the indictment
sends a message “that you can run but you can’t hide.”
Still, because the gang is so structured and has influence from
the Twin Cities to reservations throughout Minnesota, the Dakotas
and Wisconsin, authorities say it’s unlikely the indictment will
dismantle the gang altogether.
