STEELE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The second and final day of the 2019 Class B High School Baseball Tournament was held at Pirate Field on Tuesday with three games, here are the results:
Sheyenne/ New Rockford 12 Midkota/Dakota Prairie/Griggs County Central/Lakota 3 (second semifinal and elimination game)
Senior Teddy Allmaras was 3-for-5 at the plate with a single, double and triple, he also drove in six runs to help the Black Sox advance to the championship game. Isaac Smith had a solo home run for the Mustangs. Allmaras also picked up the victory on the mound working five innings, Carter Anderson took the loss. The Mustangs end their season at 4-14 overall.
Sheyenne/ New Rockford 19 Carrington 9, 6 innings (first championship game)
The Cardinals led 9-1 going into the top of the fifth inning, but the Black Sox weren’t going away easy. They sent 16 batters to the plate and poured on 11 runs in the fifth and sent 12 batters up in the top of the sixth and scored seven more runs and came back to defeat Carrington by 10-run rule in six innings. The Black Sox hit two home runs, both 3-run homers, one by Tucker Longnecker and one by Bo Belquist. Seth Nelson hit a 3-run home run for Carrington. Lucas Geiszler took the loss, Evan Ulrich was the winning pitcher.
Carrington 17 Sheyenne/ New Rockford 16, 11 innings (second championship game)
In a wild back and forth contest that lasted almost three and a half hours, the Cardinals scored four runs in the bottom of the 11th inning to comeback and defeat SNR and win their fifth consecutive region title. The Black Sox had a nine run sixth inning and led 13-6, but Carrington came back to tie it at 13 and send the game in to extras. Payton Smith, for the second time in the tourney, would have a walk-off hit to win it for Carrington. Lucas Geiszler hit a 3-run home run in the second inning for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals will advance to the 2019 State Class B Baseball Tournament for the fifth consecutive year and for the seventh time in eight years. The tourney will be held at Newman Outdoor Field on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 30th, 31st and June 1st. Pairings for the tournament will be announced Friday morning.
