JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Stutsman County Museum will be creating a unique project in front of their building.

During the Stutsman County Commission meeting Tuesday, Museum Director Alden Kollman informed the commission of much needed sidewalk repairs in front of the museum.

Kollman says they will stamp in 10 to 12 different dates of historical significance to the area along their sidewalk for the project. He says they’ll see dates like 1877 for Fort Seward and 1883 for the Courthouse along the sidewalk.

He came before the commission to request $4,000 or half of the project with the other half to be covered by Jamestown Tourism.

“We’re going to make them a quarter inch deep, so you’ll never be able to wear the concrete down that far,” Kollman stated.

The commission unanimously approved the project.

In other commission news, Auditor Nicole Meland brought up the issue of rural voting precincts ahead of the 2020 election year. Meland informed the commission that there had been numerous problems in prior elections with maintaining polling sites and staffing issues.

“We’ve had instances where people litteral cancel the day of the election or night before the election, people who show up for training and realize they actually live in Foster County and not Stutsman County,” Meland stated.

Meland says the precincts of Pingree, Kensal, and Medina would then just cast their votes by mail. It wouldn’t officially be called a vote by mail, but would operate the same way.

Meland encouraged the commission to keep it in mind as they approach the 2020 election year.
