MEDINA, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A man has died after falling through ice near Medina.

The man’s UTV had been seen about 4 miles east of Medina on the ice Monday night, but Stutsman County Sheriff Chad Kaiser says the man wasn’t reported missing and possibly in the ice until Saturday, December 7th.

Kaiser says they dispatched the ROV and Stutsman County Dive & Rescue team to search the area until past dark. He says the first search didn’t bring up anything, so they decided to begin searches again Sunday morning.

Searchers located the man’s body at around 10:30 AM. He says at this time, the cause of death is pending.

He encourages anglers to be a bit more patient while ice forms this winter.

The name of the man is being withheld pending notification of family.
